Fresh Air~ In 1975, Chip Davis released Fresh air on American grammaphone records under the name Mannheim Steamroller. I was introduced to fresh air in 1984 as a Senior in highschool. Remarkable in the fact that my musical taste where wide ranging, but usually the tape in my sony walkman was either the Dead Kennedy's, sexpistols, or styx! Yep, I loved Mr. Robotto. However, in my senior year I elected to take a music theory class where Mr. Wondrack introduced us to Hector Berlioz and the story of how symphony fantastique was based a story out of his life. At that point while listening to the album based on the context of the story I developed a greater process for listening to music, I painted pictures in my minds eye. So coming back to fresh air, one of the girls in the class loaned me her tape of fresh air and I imagined all kinds of woodsy natural scenes, the music always felt organic and natural to me. Especially the interludes. Now almost thirty years later I see scenes that I photograph hearing a little fresh air in the process! And not a care or thought for the Dead Kennedy's or sexpistols!
